Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: air conditioner, pressure gage, olds aurora

Question
My air stopped working in my 1998 olds aurora. The clutch is not kicking in and when I tried recharging the pressure gage was reading about 110 psi. I know that I should be in the 25-45 psi range. Any idea? I hope it isn't the compressor!

Thanks

Answer
the readings of 25-45 are ONLY applicable when the compressor is RUNNING AND THE PRESSURE GAGE IS ATTACHED TO THE low side  PRESSURE PORT.

WHEN THE AC IS NOT RUNNING OF COURSE THE PRESSUIRE WILL READ HIGH.

Once the compressor is OFF the high side and low side pressures will read almost identical due to normal equalization of the system.

Once you get enough freon in the system to engage the compressor the pressures will go back to their normal readings of approx 250 HIGH and 50 LOW depending upon the temperature and humidity of the day.
