Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: 1992 ols cutlass supreme s, cutlass supreme, steering wheel

I was driving home & a small amout of smoke came out from behind the steering wheel and it had a burnt smell. I want to know if it is safe to drive to a repair shop. My car is a 1992 cutlass supreme s and has over 200,000 miles with a rebuilt engine at about 120,000 miles.

I would hate to say it is safe, and then something happen.
You might want to have them come get it.
Meanwhile, there used to be a steering column expert. You might see, and ask him.
I would really expect any melting or shorted wire to blow a fuse, so you could see if everything still works.
