Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: oldsmobile silouette transmisson surge, gm delphi, oldsmobile silouette

Question
Tom,
My 96 oldsmobile silouette 3.4L V6 has 146,000 miles on it. When going along at any speed and I accelerate the engine will go up 500 or more rpms before the transmission catches up. If I jump right on the gas to pass someone there is no hesitation, it is only when I just accelerate at an even pace. This has been going on for about 30,000 miles and has never gotten worse. When going into drive or reverse no hesitation or clunking. The van gets great gas mileage on trips upwards of 28 mpg.
ps I have worked for GM/Delphi for 28 years building fuel systems in Rochester
Thank You for your help

Answer
Sounds like you have some slippage in the direct drive drum within the clutch pack inside the transmission.

You will need to put a pressure gage on the trans pressure ports to make sure your pressures are OK and IF they are, You would need to drop the trans pan and look for foreign debris within the pan.
