Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: 95 Buick LeSabre - Horn Problems., wheel hub, buick lesabre

Question
Hello!

Horns would go off occasionally untouched, then they stuck on, I disconnected them, recently cleaned electrical post and grounds, reconnected the horns and now nothing.  The horns have continuity between the connector post, I could not find any DC power coming from the horn switch and I do not know if it has a horn relay or fuse and don't know where to look.  This model has the horn swith on the steering wheel hub on each side of the air bag.  I could not find the fuse in the panel under the dash on the driver's side.  Any suggestions on locating the problem and how to correct it?  Mechanics advise me to install new horn and switch, it cheaper, however I want to give it a try to repair the problem.

Car has been almost maintenance free, 105,000mi. and just had it painted.  Best value in an auto that I have ever had.  Look forward to your response.  Thanks.

Regards,

Ray M.

Answer
I have seen this numerous times.

What is happening is that the contacts at the horn buttons on the steering column are to close together and when the horn pad heats up during the day the contacts touch thus setting off the horns.

What I do to test it is to disconnect the horns at the horns and install a test light to where you can easily see it during the day and watch to see if the test light starts to illuminate.

I have also had some success by heating up the horn pad buttons and pad area using a hair dryer and as it gets HOT the horns blow.
