I have a 89 olds custom cruiser 307 and i recently changed the fuel filter and now i idle erratic, wants to but don't stall at stops. it shakes the whole car when you put it in gear. but when i rev it up it idles out just fine i replaced the rochester {boneyard} and same thing as before. i removed a vacuum line off the carb that leads to the air breather and i idle high real high but it wont sputter at stops for now. How do i fix this?
Answer -
Are you telling me you put a JUNK YARD carburator on this vehicle ?.

lol
I did but then bought a new Q  JET from auto zone. And it still idles retarded "just like my junk yard carb idea" but not as bad. And it seems my four barrel is not opening like it should i just dont have the take off i did before i put this new dang fuel filter in. Put another new fuel filter in this carb. Now my service engine light comes on but goes off when i rev it up. And now my car emits a bad aroma from the exaust but not all the time. This is a great car no damage and only 54000 confirmed miles on it. Do i have a double whammy happening here or could this be linked.

Answer
Could be 2 bad carbs. Could be vacuum leak or vacuum hoses in wrong places.

Take some pictures of the carb 5 or more all around the carb and 2 or 3 of the area just in front of the carb and e-mail them to me at:
