Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: Hi, I have a 92 olds cutlass..., olds cutlass supreme, fuel pump relay

Question
Hi,
I have a 92 olds cutlass supreme that sat for awhile. When I started it up it had a miss. I took it out on the road and kept it in low gear. The miss cleared out but then I must have over reved it because it sputtered then died. Now it cranks but won't start. Is it possibly something with the computer that needs to be reset?
Please help. Thanks in advance. Pete.

Answer
NO it is NOT the computer as there is NO RESET.

You have to determine if you are NOT getting ignition to the spark plugs and or FUEL to the engine.

Perform this fuel pump test:

1. Get yourself a helper.

2. remove the gas cap.

3. have one person listen in the gas tank at the gas cap opening.

4. have the other person turn the ignition switch to the ON position ONLY so as the dash lights come on. Do NOT attempt to start the engine.

5. As soon as the ignition key is turned to the ON position, The person at the gas tank should hear the fuel pump run for TWO SECONDS and then it should STOP.

6. Does it ?.

If you do NOT hear it run, in most cases the fault is the fuel pump.

However, Sometimes if you continously try and start the engine 3 timse for 15 seconds continously and the vehicle starts, the fuel pump relay may be the fault.
