Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: electrical 92 buick regal, amp meter, buick regal

Question
slow drain on battery-seems to kill altenator, been through 5 in last 4 years, then battery dies. It seems, when my altenator and battery are new ,and I hook up charger even for a few minutes it reduces drain and I can go days without charging battery. If I dont hook up charger battery will die in 1-2 days. Is there some known problem with this vehicle-any suggestions?

Answer
None that I am aware of.

Normal battery drain with everythin off sitting overnight is 0.50 amps (1/2 amp).

Naturally if your constantly having to recharge the battery excessively using the alternator you will cause the alternator to forsake an early death.

Put an amp meter between the negative battery terminal and the battery cable and see how many AMPS the vehicle is drawing from the battery. If it's over the above said amount, start pulling fuses until you isolate the fuse circuit that is causing the battery drain.

This type of problem is one of the easiest problems to fix there is.
