Volvo Repair: Engine revying at start, fuel injector service, gasonline

Question
Hi James, and thank you for your quick answer.

I have searched for a solution on the Internet, and have found some suggestions regarding the TPS, i.e. http://www.swedishbricks.com/700900FAQ/EnginePerformance-Symptoms1.html#Hunting_

In your point of view, is this worth investigating, or a waste of time?

Regards,
Niels P.

Hi James, when I start my 1995/965 it revs to app. 2000 for 3 to 5 seconds, and then returns to normal idle. Do you have a suggestion for this behavior?

I have owned the car for 4 month, and it was like that when I bought it.

Thanks in advance,
Niels

This behavior is common for older models like that.  Extra fuel is added for startup and if it pools in the intake before it makes it into the engine then there is even more than designed in there.  Once it starts immedietly the extra gasonline in the intake is consumed resulting in your 3 second rev when you start.  A fuel injector service may fix the problem, but often because the age of these cars its just a problem that sticks around.  It doesn't do any damage to the car so if you don't want to have anything done to the car then it will be okay, as long as you don't mind the noise yourself.  Hope that helps.

Answer
Well it could be worth investigating but are you having the same problems with an unstable idle speed?  Couldn't say for sure if that is actually related to your problem.  Most of the older cars I work on that act like that nobody has ever complained about.  It should only take you a few minutes to check both so I'd say go ahead.  Even if they turn out to be okay thats one thing you know now is okay.  Half an hour is all it should take.  If you find a problem then there's one step closer to getting it fixed.
