Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: 86 olds ninety-eight, e mail address, clutch assembly

Question
Hello, My question is my olds 98 keeps sticking in second gear. To get it out of second I have to go up to about 80 mph, then it shifts into drive. We have changed the sparkplugs and checked the vaccuum seals. Any ideas what it could be

Answer
OK, We have been rebuilding transmissions for well over 25 + years and really need to know WHAT transmission you have in the vehicle.

Is the vehicle a FRONT or REAR wheel drive ?.

We also need to know what MODEL transmission is in it.

WHEN was the last time you replaced the transmission filter and had the trans serviced ?.

In reference to the trans possible causes you could have:

1. Valve body shift valves sticking.
2. Leaking valve body gaskets.
3. Broken oil rings on the CENTER SUPPORT.
4. Problems with seals or clutches in the DIRECT CLUTCH
  assembly.
5. INTERMEDIATE SERVO problems.
6. Possible govenor problems.
7. Possible partial sun gear teeth stripped on the shell.
8. Low oil pump pressure.

The trans will have to be examined by a qualified transmission technician BEFORE an accurate diagnosis can be made.

We rebuild and teach transmission rebuilding and we rebuild transmissions for the cost of the parts, and $100.00 labor.

Your biggest expense would be the cost of having someone remove the transmission and shipping it to and from us here in Albuquerque New Mexico.

Since we are a teaching facility we can rebuild transmissions at a very low cost.
