Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: Olds trans problem, torque converter clutch, torque converter clutch solenoid

Question
My mother has a 1985 cutlass 4cyl front wheel drive. It acts like the torque is not disengaging when stopping. acts like a straight shift with clutch not engaged. The motor runs well and trans shifts okfor a while then starts acting up. She is ready to junk the car but if not a major problem I will get it fixed for her. Thanks

Answer
Hi Bill,
I am not a transmission man, but the TCC solenoid valve is what it sounds like to me. Torque converter clutch solenoid valve.

There should be a transmission expert on this site.

I will give you a link for another site that has hundreds of GM owners and mechanics. Sign in there, (FREE), and search for transmission problems, or ask the question, and you will get plenty of answers.
You can also ask questions directly, and Transman is who you want.
