Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: why is my car cutting off, egr vavle, egr valve

Question
i have a 1995 buick lesabre and i have i bad heater core and egr vavle which could be making my car cut off while im in traffic would it be the heater core, the egr vavle or both? also it cuts off after the check engine light comes on

i also got my car computer scanned and it gives me a linear egr pintle position position error (what does this mean?)

Answer
Hello antwaine,
As long as the heater core doesn't leak enough that the engine runs low of coolant, it shouldn't cause it to cut off.
The EGR valve now, if it is open at the wrong time, it is just a huge vacuum leak, and will defanitely cause it to die.
The egr valve can, and should be cleaned.
Linear is just a tech word for it moves legnthwise by magnetism, meaning like a solenoid, and pintle is the actual sealing point, like a valve seat.
Sounds like it may be seating on some carbon or rust, and the computer thinks it should be closed, but it is showing not completely closed, so clean it.
