Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: Leaking Blower Fan, water leaks, blower fan

I have a 1999 Olds Intrigue with the 3.5L.  When it rains, water leaks leaks through the blower fan and into the passenger side floorboard.  The bearings are now cooked on the blower motor and I need to replace it.  How do I stop this from happening again?  There is what seems to be a drain tube attached to the blower fan.  Someone told me that the water was leaking in through the cowl and needs to be re chaulked.  What does he mean by this?

hi tom ,the blower motor has a seal between it and the heater box.if this seal goes bad water runs off windshield right to this.now the cow is where the heater box bolts to the firewall a bead of sealer around this should fix this problem.good luck billymac
