Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: 95 Buick Regal Dies while driving on freeway?, gm cars, buick regal

Question
Hi,  My 94 buick regal (v.8 130,000, loaded, been reg maintained) dies while driving off and on. It has done this intermittently for 3-4 years. My daughters drives it now while away at college.  She is an Ag major & attends labs at the school farm way out on a  remote No. Calif. hwy.  Problem is this: it has started dying again on her.  Suddenly Out of knowhere, without warning, it will just turn off. It  can happen anywhere, going 80 mph or standing still.  She just had a local mechanic do repairs he reccommend replacing the ignition sensor for a total of $500.00~ $400-(parts) $100- in labor.  His diagnostic test showed codes that said it was either the main computer or the igntion sensor.
She replaced the sensor & it did the same thing the next day.  This time with less warnging than before. 1st time check eng soon lite went on, started to run rough, then serv eng lite came on again, it dies.  2nd time no warning lights, She was driving down this rural highway at night, alone, and it dies.  She managed to push it to the farm where it still sits.  I have had numerous mechinical people look at it and no one seems to know for sure what the heck the problem is.  Is this what Buicks do on their the way out, is this common, can it be fixed, how can i drive it home (4 hrs away) without stalling it?  Is it safe to drive?
