Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: air conditioning connections, catalitic converter, olds ciera

Question
I have a 1996 Olds Ciera, 3.1 engine. I am told the engine blew a rod. In finding an engine, one person asked if the air conditioning connection had 4 or 5 holes. I don't know alot about engine's, but this doesn't sound correct to me in the 96 Ciera. Also, the old engine would hesitate sometimes around 60+ mph. My dad, who used to moonlight as a mechanic and taught all of us what we pretty much all know about engines, thought it was a combustion problem. If that would be true, then it was probably in the catalitic converter area, as I know it. Would this involve a new engine? I don't think so. What are your thoughts.

Answer
hi lori, and ty for writeing.what they are asking you,is where the airconditioner bolts onto the engine is the bracket held on with 4 bolts or 5 bolts.because if not right aircond pump will not bolt to the new eng.yes the converter will cause a hesitation, but your question said that your eng blew a rod, these are two different probs not related.good chance if it was a converter prob then your new eng will also have a hesitation.  i hope this helps feel free to write back.and please rate my help ty billymac
