Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: 1996 Buick Sylark, Fuel Injector & Water in Oil problems, wise questions, head gasket

Question
Dec. 23 car had 1 of the fuel injectors replaced.

Last Monday, 1/17/05 noticed "low coolant" light came on, added coolant, no leaks on ground.  Next day, again "low coolant" light comes on.  Same thing, no leaks, added more coolant.  Take car into mechanic, he says "no water on plugs", good thing money wise.

Questions:
1.  Would replacing one of the six fuel injectors have caused a problem now with intake valve or gasket?

2.  Don't you have to remove these to get to the fuel injector?

3.  Mechanic is telling us around 800.00 - unless he has to go further down in the engine, then maybe around 1200 - 1500.00.  Is this normal?

Also, the car is 1996, has 110,000 miles on it, 6 cyl.  Until November 2004, it was NOT driven.  Sat in our garage, for the past 2-3 years, and if I put 1500 miles on it in a year that was a lot.  I work from home and have no need to drive the car, but my husband started using my car when he sold his truck.

Since he started driving it daily - everything seems to be going wrong with it.

What's the problem here?  We did oil changes, and basic upkeep; I think my husband should take the bus or ride a bike!!

Answer
HI KIMBERLY.LOL WELL HUBBY IS PROBABLY NOT GONNA GO FOR THE BIKE THING,SO LET,S SEE IF WE CAN FIGURE THIS OUT.YOU ARE GETTING WATER IN THE OIL BUT NOT INTO THE PLUGS.IF THE MECHANIC CHANGED AN INJECTOR THEN THERE IS LITTLE CHANCE OF DAMAGEING A HEAD GASKET,UNLESS MAYBE THE BOLTS THAT HOLD THE INJECTOR WAS OVER TIGHTENED AND CRACKED THE INTAKE.BUT IF A CAR SETS GASKETS DRY UP AND GO BAD SO POSSIBLY THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED.IS 1200 1500 NORMAL IT IS HIGH FOR MY TASTE I THINK IF I WERE GOING TO HAVE IT DONE I WOULD SHOP AROUND SOME.WE DO THEM ALL THE TIME FOR 700-900.BUT IF YOU TRUST YOUR MECHANIC ,WHICH I DON,T THINK YOU DO RIGHT NOW,THEN SEE IF YOU CAN GET HIM DOWN TO A MORE REASONABLE RATE.HOPE THIS HELPS PLEASE RATE MY HELP TY BILLYMAC
