Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: 95 Buick Riviera ABS/Traction Light On, 1995 buick riviera, buick riviera

Question
in our 1995 Buick Riviera, yesterday the TRACTION OFF light on the dash came on when the car was started, as did the ABS Brake light but they did not do off.  The BRAKE light is not on and the brakes do work, however not the ABS when we tried.  We tried to push the button to turn off the Traction control, but it will not go off and the light stays on.  The owners manual just says it requires service.  We have owned the car less than 1 year and just recently replaced the battery, tires and have the carbuerator jets cleaned.  We are wondering if the car is beginning to be a money pit with only 95K miles on it.

Answer
hi susan.this is a very common prob in the winter.when you lose traction due to snow or ice.if you have that stuff where you live.the same sensor that runs the abs also runs the traction control.if a sensor is bad the abs won,t work and the brakes will work normally.just disconnect the batt neg cable for a few minutes if light stays off prob solved if not service required.and this car is one of the best you can buy i have never seen a bad riviera and have personally owned a few.and have seen them over 200.000 miles and run great.so relax i know you love this car.take care of it and it will make you proud please rate my help ty billymac
