Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: 2000 Alero Heating Issue, olds alero, rear defroster

Question
Hi, Billy.
I drive a 2000 Olds Alero, 2-door, with a V6.
I left my car parked outside for 13 days at the airport over the holidays.  It was chilly when I left town (just below zero), but warmed up considerably while I was gone.  The heat (and blower motor) in the car, albeit a bit slow to warm up, seemed to be working fine at that point.  Last night our area was stricken with a horrible ice storm, and my car was frozen in approximately 1/2" of ice.  Once we finally were able to pry into the doors and turned the car on, we realized the heater was not blowing ANY air, alas, until the temps reach above freezing (another 2-3 days at least), the car cannot be driven (since the rain/sleet/snow on the cold windshield immediately freezes).  The rear defroster is working fine.  But no air is coming out of the vents, and the defrost does not work.
I have checked the fuses, thinking perhaps the blower motor fuse was shot, but that doesn't seem to be the problem.
I will take the car to a mechanic once it warms up, but in the meantime, is there anything I can do?  Or, might you have any idea what could be the problem?  Is something just frozen in the cooling system, that once warmer temperatures come, would work fine?  I'm at a loss.  The car started and ran just fine today, with the exception of the lack of heat.
Any help or suggestions you can offer will be greatly appreciated.

Answer
hi andrea, sounds like a resistor problem this is the part close to the heater motor the motor wires actually go to this part and temps can effect this part and no it probably will not work in warmer temps either.simple part to change and fairly cheap.ty please rate my help billymac
