Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: camsensor failure, port fuel injection, crankshaft sensor

Question
I have a 1987 Buick Lesabre with the 3800 sequential port fuel injection. The problem is it will not restart when warmed up,(until it cools down). It is showing a code 41, which is camshaft sensor circuit failure. I need to know exactly what it does and how to troubleshoot it. The ignition module and crankshaft sensor have been checked out. Engine vin code is 3.

Answer
hi scott,ok the cam sensor,is just that it is mounted in the top of the timeing cover case.there is a mag on the top and bottom of the cam gear,,or timeing gear.the cam sensor tells the computer when the engine is at top dead center.the computer uses this info to determine which cly to fire .and which injector to open.well to properly troubleshoot it you will need a scanner .so you can read inj pulse width and pulse reference.if these are not avail buy the sensor ,and replace it/.hope this helps please take a min of your time to rate my help ty billymac
