Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: 94 park ave troubleshooting, buicks, fuel filter

Question
Hi, 94 park ave 3.8 Started car and it had no power, was able to drive it home, it will start but runs very rough, then stalls. If I try to restart it several times, it won't restart. Let it sit for a few minutes and it will restart, but still very rough and stalls, too rough to be able to drive at all. Tried changing some old vacuum hoses, no help. Disconnected battery and reconnected to try to eset computer, still no help. There never was a check engine light, if the computer goes bad should there be a light? Would there be any code without the check engine light ever coming on? Or do I need a shop to hook up engine anylizer?
This was my mothers car, she had 2 computers put in it, one at 41k and 1 at 65k. Now has 83k.Has been running well before this.
Thanks for your help, dave.
