Question
HELLO BILLY
WELL MY CAR RECENTLY RAN OUT OF GAS, I HAVE A 1990 OLDSMOBILE CUTLASS CIERA,  I THEN PUT GAS IN IT AND STILL WOULD NOT START, IT TURNS OVER BUT SEEMS LIKE NOT GETTING ANY GAS. I REPLACED FUEL FILTER BECAUSE IT WAS CLOGGED. CHECKED FUEL PUMP ITS OK .  PRIOR TO IT RUNNING OUT OF GAS IT STALLED ALL THE TRIME AND IT SEEMS IT WAS DOING IT MORE AND MORE.  BUT NOW THAT THINGS HAVE BEEN REPLACED IT STILL WILL NOT START.  DO YOU HAVE ANY POSSIBILLE SOLUTIONS ON TO WHAT MIGHT BE WRONG?
                     THANK-YOU

Answer
HI PAULA. well paula here iis how this fuel system works.you turn your key on it turns the power to the fuel pump on and the pump will run for 3 secs.this pressurizes the fuel system .so at this point you have pressurized fuel waiting at the injector.waiting for a signal to tell the injector to open and spray fuel into the eng.this is done bye what is called a crankshaft sensor.the crank has a ring on it for each cylinder.the sensor watches this ring every rotation of the eng it will fire the injector to that cyl.if this sensor fails the fuel will not go to the eng the car will have fuel and fire but will not start.so knowing all of this and what you told me i would have to say you need a crank sensor paula.good luck and please rate my help.ty billymac
