Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: A/C noise, buick lesabre, c comp

Question
I have a 97 Buick Lesabre.  When I turn on the AC the fan gets louder and kind of rattely.  It still blows cold but the noise worries me so I don't run it.  It doesn't make the noise on vent or heat.

Answer
hi mindy.hmmm well the fan that runs the aircondioner is the same fan that runs the heat and vent.so knowing this .the only thing that changes when you put it on a/c is the comp kicks on the comp and the fan mtr are both close to each other so the compressor rattling could certainly sound like the fan .but mindy i would have to believe it is the a/c comp makeing noise.and yes you shouldn,t runthe airconditioner .because it will lock up and leave you broke down.however if you don,t run the air the belt just freewheels and will cause no damage.a comp for your car labor and all could cost around 500 00.but not an emergency just don,t use it good luck mindy.and please take a few mins to rate my service it is important to us   billymac
