Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: 1980 Buick Skylark, buick skylark, transmission fluid

Question
When the car is running,I was told the oil is blowing out the rear main seal.Also, there is a sound in the transmission, like something has come loose like a screw or something, but it jerks when going into another gear, and transmission fluid drips out on the motor while running and smokes real bad then.Also, the motor is sideways,it's supposedly the orginal motor.It was a family members and she only put about75000 miles on it. Do you have any thing that would help me decide what needs to be done and if it's worth it? Thank you, Brandy

hi brandy..well i would have to say these were some great trans cars.the car will need at least a used trans for 400 .00 the rear main if you have it done when the trans is replaced.will be about 50.00 labor 20.00 parts.you are looking prob another 500.00 in labor to change trans.so brandy unless your dad is a mech you will spend 1000.00 dollars min.and the car is just not worth that.please take time to rate my service brandy   illymac
