Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: Buick Engine Revving, buick engine, fuel injection system

Question
My 1988 Buick Century has been running great but recently developed a leak in the radiator.  I have a new unit and am set to put it in...but my wife called this AM to tell me the engine is revving...  She shut the car down but it's now doing it at start-up and won't slow back to a normal idle.  Is this something coolant-related or a new problem?  Any insights would be much appreciated!

Answer
hi jeff.well first of all yes it could be related .you see if your car has been running low on antifreeze then it has ran different temps then it is used too.so bye doing that what it may have done is give the wrong signal too the temp sensor.the temp sensor is part of the fuel injection system,.it senses the temp of your eng and sends that info to the computer then the computer mixes the fuel accordingly.so the sensor is telling the computer that the engine is cold so naturally a cold eng will idle high.that is one possibility.the other is much simpler.maybe a broken vacum hose or a bad idle air control mtr iac .possibly a leaky throttlebody gasket.i hope this helps  jeff.billymac
