Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: Electrical Problem, mount brackets, buick century

Question
I am not getting any power to the entire car...I replaced a fuseable link in a 1994 buick century the first one i tried made the hood light come on,but when i opened up the drivers door everything went out again. The second one I tried does not do anything at all.Are you able to splice the fuseable link or does it have to be a continuous line with no splicing.I've checked all other connections everything appears to be fine,I don't know what else to do. Thank You...

Answer
hi adam.well to begin with you can splice however you will need to replace a burned link with one of the exact same amperage.so first thing you wanna do is all the obvious things not trying to insult you but most probs with elec systems are minor things that get overlooked.so bear with me.first check battery connections make sure they are clean and tight.if so then take a test light and test the pos cable just below the terminal end should have voltage.if so everything from batt out is ok.now hook your test light to the pos side of the batt and touch the probe to the eng anywhere you can touch steel mount brackets etc.if light lights you have eng ground.all power to your car comes from the fused links you may have some on the fender and also some on pos post on your startertake your test light andon the fused link you will find the center of link is hard plastic test on both side of the hard plastic center.light should light on both sides if so circuit is complete link is ok make sure batt cable is tight on starter hot post.try and move cable if bad power will flash on and off tighten cable.if none of this fixes your prob write back and i will tell you more .hope this helps adam bye billymac
