Auto Insurance Claims: multiple policies, insurance premiums, credit score

Question
Im moving out of state in 2 months and my current insurer does not cover that state.  I would like to start a new policy now before I move while my credit score is still decent as I know its going to be taking a hit in next few months and I know most insurers use credit score to decide your insurance premiums.  Are there any laws against having 2 policies at once?  Sort of overlapping each other for 2 months.

Answer
Hi James,

There are no laws against it, however, if there were an accident you could not collect your full claim from both. Each company would only pay 50% of the total claim.

There is no need to boy and pay for 2 policies at once. Your current policy will cover you for 30 days in your new state. That should give you plenty of time to shop for a new company.

I hope this helps
