Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: 1988 Buick Park Avenue, buick park avenue, janice kaplan

Question
Dear Pete,

My 1988 Buick Park Avenue has a problem with the driver's side power seat.  It does tilt, but no longer can adjust forward/backward or up/down.  There is no problem with the passenger side.

Also the power steering sporadically has problems.  When I start the car I don't always have power steering right away, but it does kick in after a few minutes.  When steering the car into turns it feels as though there is a hard spot or "hitch" that I have to exert force to get through.  Left turns can be more difficult than right.  Driving straight with slight turns presents no problem.  Again, these diffculties with the steering are sporadic.

I would greatly appreciate any insight you could give me into repairing these two problems.

Thank you  -- Janice Kaplan
