Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: Power Steering pump, power steering pump, buick lesabre

Question
I own a 1989 Buick LeSabre. I have a knocking sound diagnosed as bad power steering pump. How hard is it to repair or replace this item by someone who is not a mechanic?

Answer
Well, it could cause you to pull some hair out, and you will probably say why did I get myself into this, but actually, you should be able to complete that task yourself, with pretty common tools.
I'm curious about the knocking. A notch in the belt, or bent pulley could cause that also.
A section of broomstick held against different accessories, and the other against your ear, while the engine is running, like a stethascope, is a good way to narrow down the cause, but be careful to not hit the fan.
