Question -
Would you be able to give very basic instructions on replacing the Hub Assembly on a 2002 Buick Rendezvous?  My husband wants to make sure there isn't something he needs to "watch out" for under there (such as a sensor or something).  There is just not a "bearing", it is a whole Hub assembly unit.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I have searched and searched and cannot find anything related to this issue on the internet.  Thank you!

Hello Susan,
First of all, why not replace it under warranty?
OK... if you need to replace it yourself, go to the public library, in the refference section, and make some copies of pages from a shop manual.
I don't really work on cars much, but there is a wheel speed sensor there. However, using common sense, you can work with it.

Thank you for your quick response.  Unfortunately the warranty expired at 36,000 miles and I have 56,000 - so I won't get help from Buick.  I checked with the library but they do not have any auto manuals (Chilton) for the new vehicles.  The ones I saw only went up to 2000.  I am considering getting the newer Chilton manual but not sure how much work my husband would actually be doing that would warrant the investment in such an expensive book.  Local garages are quoting me $350 - $600(!) to replace but I found the part at NAPA for $173 so my husband doesn't care to pay the locals when they are already putting a minimum of $100 extra on the part.

Sorry - sorta got off the path there.  Anyway, I appreciate your help and will have to see if I can locate something somewhere.  Thanks again.

Answer
Susan, you are sure welcome, and I understand wanting to do it yourself. I can't stand the prices some places charge.
I don't work commercially, so price isn't in my vocabulary.
A salvage yard might be able and willing to give you information on the swap, and probably even have a good replacement part much cheaper than the new, although not always.
I have picked up great service manual deals on Ebay. $4.00 for one.
Good luck,
Van
