Pontiac Repair: Headlights

Hello! I have a 2002 Pontiac Grand-Am GT 3.4 V6. My headlight covers were always cloudy and prevented me to see at night without driving with the highbeams on. And lately, I couldn't see with the highbeams either since the lights were pointing to the ground and not out in front of me to see at night. I just got new headlight covers that came with new bulbs as well and the road is clearer now at night, but the lights are still pointing to the ground and not letting me see in front of me. I was told the headlights are pre-set, so what is causing this? I can't see to drive at night! I look forward to your answer.

Hi Susan:
that car has both vertical and horizointal adjustments on the lamps there are 2 adjustment screws on the top of the lamps that will allow you to raise and lower the focus of the light and side to side as well. one thing is possably when you replaced the lamps you didn't get the retaining clips in stalled fulling into the lamps and it's sitting in the headdr panel crooked and that is why the aim is off. new lamps should be preset to a ballpark so you can at least see where your going. if not you need to make the adjustments to the lamps so you can see where your going and not point the lights towards the road. It's been a while since I worked on one of these since now pontiac is gone away and that car hasn't been built in almosy 8 years. But the adjustmet screws are either for a 1/4" extension to fit into the adjuster or an inberted yorex socket. Of cousre if the lamps are after market then they could be just about anything for an adjustment screw from a phillips screwdriver to a flat blade to what the original ones were. good luck to you :-)
