Pontiac Repair: power steering quit working, v6 engines, shaf

i have a 2001 grand am and power steering quit working , no leaks and res is still full. only has the one belt and it is still good ,???

Hi Dennis:

chances are that the input shaf snapped off in the pump. when the engine is running take the cap off the pump and look at the fluid if youdon't see the fluid churning the pump quit working due to the pump shaft breaking off. Sort of a common issue on those happens to both the 4 cylinder and V6 engines. good luck :-)
