Pontiac Repair: plenum gasket, egr tube, plenum


Question
Yes.i have a 1997 3.8 with plenum gasket blown,putting new plenum on and the egr tube out of intake doesn,t fit the new plenum is very tight going on the plenum will not sit down on intake b/c of egr tube bigger has metal sleeve in new plenum old one i removed does'nt have a sleeve do i need to get another egr tube or can i remove metal sleeve from new plenum so it will slide in it

Hi Lawrence:

With out seeing it I can't tell you for sure what the issue is but if you have the wring year upper intake it will not fit on the original lower intake. There are ag=aftermarket upper intakes that are touted to not leak due in redesigned part well the redesigned part doesn't fit the original design lower intake or the transfer pipe for the EGR is the wrong one. Again with out seeing it I acn;t tell you what the issue is but the original equipment parts do not have inserts I only have experience with the original parts not aftermarket stuff. Somewhere you have an incompatibility between old and new. good luck :-)
