Pontiac Repair: keyless remote, gm dealership, car lot

Question
I have a 2004 grand prix I just bought from a used car lot. They said I could buy one for my car but, I do not know who to go too. Do I go to any used car lot  where I live. they have to go by the vin #. I am scared the alarm is going to go off.

Answer
Hi Connie:

Do you have 1 remote already and want to add a remote? If you don't have any it may be because the car was not equipped with keyless entry in the first place. "Most" grand prix's have keyless entry but if it was a rental car originally or a stripped down basic model it may not have been built with keyless entry. If you have 1 and it does work you can stop by any GM dealership and get an extra remote there. The remote had to be programmed to the car using a scan tool this is not a job you can do your self. The dealership will  usually charge you 1/2 hour labor + the price of the remote to do it. good luck :-)
