Pontiac Repair: 2001 Grand Am idles down at standstill, thumb print, auto parts stores

Question
I have a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am Se with  2.4 twin cam. It drives fine but as soon as I stop at a stop sign or light, it starts to feel like it wants to bog out. As I wait for the light to change, the car just seems to want to cut off-as if it's not getting enough gas or not enough fire. Once I give it gas to go, it runs fine. I have recently changed the oil, spark plugs, fuel filter and air filter. The only thing that is wrong with it that I know I need to change right now are the brakes, but other than that the car runs smooth.

Answer
Hi there:

has any service engine soon lamp come on? If so stop by one of the big box auto parts stores for a code check they do it free of charge. a code will leave a thumb print as to what to arat looking for. does it run rough (misfire) or does it just want to quit running? It could be a fuel or spark issue. If it just wants to stall you may want to clean the throttle body and throttle play it may be all carboned up. Another thing to look at on these older quad engines is the vacuum hose going to the MAP sensor. the hoses either crack and split open or even deteriorate to the point where the hose sucks closed. Take a look there as well. good luck :-}
