Pontiac Repair: 01 Grand Am defrost, scratch break, car parts store

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to why my rear defrost won't defrost my window. we check and there is electricity traveling through the wires but it doesn't do anything to the window. Any suggestions?

Hi Allison:

My guess is you have some of the grids in the defroster that have gone bad. You need both power and gound at the window. You need to use a 12 Volt test light and check the power flow on each grid. My bet is you find more than a few of the grids are broken or have been scartched with something. once there is a break in a grid that whole line will not work. if it's just a few that do not work that car parts store has a kit you can fix the broken grids with it's a metalic paint you just bruch it over where the scratch/break in the grid is and it shoul work okay. It' an UGLY fix but it's better than buying a new rear window. Good luck :)
