Pontiac Repair: abs & stabilitrak lights on, ponitac torrent, wheel bearing

Question
QUESTION: I have a 2007 ponitac torrent front wheel drive. The abs & stabilitrak lights came on 2 days ago,the stabilitrak light came on about 3 weeks ago but went out later.I seen there was a service bulletin back in 2008 on this topic it states the wire harness going to ebcm chaffing on trans.mount or bracket.Where is the ebcm located and how to reset lights? What are your thoughts on this?Thank You,Paul

ANSWER: Hi Paul:

chances are it's a wheel speed sensor or a wheel speed sensor harness that is bad. take it to one of the big box auto parts stores and have the system scanned for codes. see what is set and dgo from there. without knowing why the lights are on it's a guessing game. both lights are related. the stabilitrack needs ABS data to work so both lights being on are more then likley the same issue. good luck :-)

QUESTION: I took it to advance auto parts last night, they could not pullup a code.Where are the wheel speed sensor located?Thank you,Paul

Answer
Each wheel bearing has a speed sesor in it. Try another auto parts store those cheap code scanners sometimes have glitches in them and they will not read data from every car/truck. if the lamp is on when the car/truck is scanned for codes there should be a code(s) stored unless there is an issue with the ABS module it's self will not communicate with the scan tool and then again just becuse it will not communicate with a cheesy tester doesn't mean there is an issue with the module. The cars/trucks of today are som complex that aftermarket tools don't always work.
