Pontiac Repair: wifes 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP, pontiac grand prix, 3800 v6

Question
My wife's car is a 3800 V6 Supercharged model with over 160,000 miles. Information Display goes out, heat/cool controls go out and will come back on a while later (sometimes 1-2 days# as long as off but when they are back on can only keep the fan speed at level 1. If turned to level 2 they go off again. The daytime lights flicker off and on now as well. Service Engine soon light will flicker off and on and the car will start to miss #already had in garage for that a week ago) and now the light stays on. Replaced fuses for HVAC CTRL and DIC/HVAC. What would appear to be the issue?

Answer
Hi Rob:

sounds like you either have a bad ignition switch or a bad battery power feed into the ignition switch. the increased load on the electrical system with the higher fan speed is what is causing the voltage level to drop and then you loose the other things. The battery power feeds for this car come through the fire wall under the heater box and the a/c drain drips right on that wire harness that is a source of corrosion in the wires and that can cause the issue. It's either one or the other that is the root of your problems. They are all related I doubt that each issue has it's own problem that all intertwined. Good luck :-}
