Pontiac Repair: service air bag light, pontiac g6, presence sensor

Question
2009 Pontiac G6, 45,000 miles. Service air bag light came on, dealer asked if I placed electronics on the passenger seat. I had laid my cell phone on the seat the day the light came on had never done that before, phone was always in purse. Told me on the phone it probably just needed to be reset. Took it to the dealer told me it will cost me between 300-500 to repair, take door panel off, etc, etc. Told me the cell phone had nothing to do with it. I don't feel like I trust them. Coincidence that the light came on the same day I layed the phone on the seat and they told me that would throw off the computer? Now they tell me that doesn't happen??

Answer
Hi sandy:

what was the air bag code for? The passenger presence system? If so yes a phone/Ipad/Laptop any kind of eletronic device "CAN" trip a air bag code. They they were telling you the truth. If the lmap comes on agaoin and you don't have a eletronic device on the seat it will need a pasenger presence sensor/module for the r/f seat. good luck :)
