Pontiac Repair: Car wont start, security light, engine computer

My 03 grand am won't start. You responded to my question buy suggesting I tap on gas tank to see if maybe the fuel pump was stuck and also maybe security light was flashing it could be ignition lock system. The security light comes on sometimes but doesn't flash and last time I tried it didn't even come on. Wouldn't any of these problems show up on the scanner as a code. And if the short that is draining my battery was preventing it from starting also show up as a code. Thanks

a security issue will set a code but not necessarily in the engine computer in the body computer for sure. a sort/draw on a battery will not usually show up unless there is some sort of an issue with one of the modules but as a rule no. if a battery drains in a matter of a couple of minutes with the key on the battery is junk it may not have a short/draw just the battery has reached the end of it's useful life.
