Pontiac Repair: Grand am wont start, coolant temperature sensor, emission tests

Question
I have an 03 Grand Am. I stopped at a store and came out and it wouldn't start. I am getting spark to the plugs and fuel.  I did change the ignition module and a coolant temperature sensor. I saw some bare wires and just started moving them around a little and it started for about 3 seconds and then died. I bought a scanner and it gave me 0 codes, just some incomplete emission tests. When I turn the key on to try and clear the computer it kills the battery.

Answer
Hi Mark:

it can be a few things. I would first start looking at the battery since the battery dies right away maybe loose or corrded connections at the battery. Then have someone crank the car while you tap on the bottom of the fuel tank with a rubber mallet. It could be a fuel pump issue trying to crank it and tapping on the tank may "jar" a pump that is stuck ona dead spot. one other tought when you try to start thein and it will not start or dies leave the key in the run position does the security lamp start to flash? If so you have an issue with the factiry theft system and it preventing the car from running. 95% of the time when this happens the ignition lock cylinder housing has failed there is a seneor in the housing and it fails and the car will not stay running when that happens. good luck :-)
