Pontiac Repair: 97 grand am, intake air temp, google search

Question
I am trying to get my friends daughters grand am back on the road. Im not completely stupid when it comes to veh repair but this one has me stumped. It wont start on its own. it will start and run, all systems go, on ether. the only trouble code it gives is PO113 Intake Air Temp high input. The voltage at the sensor is 5-5.5 volts. When the car is running the air temp being registered per my reader is accurate.  The veh has 60-70 psi on fuel on a dead head test. The injectors are not getting signal when tested with noid lights. The RPMs are not registering on either the dash guage or OBD 1&11 scanner I have. I chased it down to what I thought might be the crank position sensor. I have replaced it with no change. I gather someone before me tried to fix it. I found a crank position sensor box, TPS box, Cam position sensor box and a replaced coil device. I dont want to arbitrarily replace the ECM but im running out of options. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi robert:

if it starts runs and stalls out chances are it's a security system issue. that has a system called pass-lock and a pretty common issue with those cars if when it stalls out the security lamps start to flash that for sure is what's wrong with it. 90% of the time it's a ignition lock housing. try a google search and you find what I'm talking about. when the pass lock is active you will get no injetor pulse it turns off the injectors as a theft default. as for the ambinet temp sensor 5 volts is what you should see on the signal wire with the sensor unplugged and less then that when it's plugged in due to the resistance in the sensor it's self. with those it could be the sensor or a broken wire in the insulation near the sensor usually with in couple of inches of the sensor the wires break. that code will not cause a no start or a stall It plays a roll in over all fuel delivery and in some instances will cause a harsh shift issue. As for the no RPM signal the ignition module needs power and ground in run and in crank. check the 2 wire connetor pink and black wires for power and ground with the key on and while cranking. also check for AC volatge on the other small connetor at the module and crank the car over you should see a small amout of AC voltage across the yellow and purple wires if so the crank sensor and it's wires are ok. you could have a wire issue between the ecm and the ignition module for the TAC input or a bad igntion module. It's hard to say with out seeing it. good luck :-)

ECM's usaually don't go had on these and they need to be programmed when replaced which has to be done at a dealer or an AC DEelco repair shop. oine last thing to look at is the ground wires at the transmisssion to engine on the left side of the engine by the radiator. give al of those wires a tug if any of them break off or look green and cheesy replace the ends.
