Pontiac Repair: 2000 Grand Prix trunk release stopped working, pontiac grand prix, flat blade

Question
We have a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix. This evening the trunk release stopped working. When the release button in either the glove compartment or one of the remotes is pushed, the mechanism does activate (I can hear it) but it does not release the latch. We can't budge the trunk at all. How involved is a repair for something like this, and how much (ballpark) should we expect it to cost?

Answer
Hi Richard:

will it open with the key? if it will not open that way either the latch is more then likley jammed. it can be opened from inside the trunk if the seat folds down you can usually reach in with a flat blade screw driver and un latch it from there if it doesn't have fold down seats just the pass thu the rear seat will need to be removed to get into the trunk. the latch is not all the expensive I have no Idea as to the part cost but your not talking hundreds of dollars. good luck :)
