Pontiac Repair: 97 Grand Prix GTP Electrical Problems, serial data line, engine modules

Question
On My '97 GTP, I've been having intermittent problems with certain parts of my electrical system acting up.  It seems ignition-related, but other things act up at the same time.  I have a P1361 code that pops up with the problems.  While driving for about 5 minutes after initial start-up, the car will seem to hiccup once.  At that time, the HUD will display random, changing numbers for a fraction of a second.  Also, the ignition timing will default to 10 degrees BTDC and the car will sometimes misfire under load, specifically while in boost.  After this hiccup, the DIC will, at seemingly random times, flash all zeros for a period, then return to normal operation.  With the headlights on, the DIC backlight flickers periodically, but not always in conjunction with the flashing zeros.  I also noticed that the pin on the red wire going to the ignition control module was slightly burned, but the connection is still solid.

Answer
hi Daniel:

That engine DTC is an odd one. it can be cause by a wiring issue or any one of the ignition components the wiring the ignition module or the engine control module. the bypass siganl code uses the tan and black wire on the module. as for all the other things acting up that has an issue with the UART serial data all the engine modules are tied together and the serial data line if it is damaged rubbed though to ground it will take the data line down and the mosules DUC/HUB have no valid data going to them so they act up and dipaly goffy things. it may not be a data line it could be one of the modules going bad and pulling down the data line and the same end result. good luck :)
