Pontiac Repair: 2001 Grand Prix, auto parts stores, compure

Question
QUESTION: When driving at highway speed(65mph)this morning, I felt the engine "stumble", my tachometer went to zero and the traction control turned off. This happened two different times when I attempted to set the cruise. I read the answer you gave about this very same thing happening to someone else.  I checked the harness near the A/C accumulator, and found nothing wrong. What else could be causing this problem?

ANSWER: Hey Dale:
this could go 2 ways it can be an issue with the ignition system causing it or some sore of an ABS issue. The fact that the traction off lamp was on would lead me to belive that hopefully it has set a code or 2 in either the engine compure or the anti-lock computer. have the car scanned for codes at one of the big box auto parts stores and see what code(S) are set that will leave a thumb print for what the issue here could be. see where you are then and it can be addressed from what ever codes are stored.

QUESTION: Neither the check engine light, or the abs light have been on. Wouldn't one of those lights be on if there was a code set?

Answer
usually yes. but not always especially for the engine control module it can set codes but not trip the light. The abs if the lamp is not on it will not store a code. It's still worth a shot to have it scanned for codes the auto parts stores do not charge for that they do it for free in hopes you will buy parts from them.
