Pontiac Repair: 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix GT, fuel pressure gauge, pontiac grand prix

Question
When the car is on an incline, it accelerates really rough, gets a little jerky, most noticeably around 2000 RPM's.  I did some work on the front brakes this week, and had jackstands under both sides of the front end.  When we started the car, it almost choked itself out when on that severe of an incline.  It is a 3800 engine, VIV:K.  I had a tune up with new plugs and wires about 20k miles ago, which was only February 2010.  I am not sure what could cause this, I don't want to blindly replace the fuel pump thinking it may be a fuel delivery issue when on an incline, without asking a pro first.  Is this a common problem with this car?  Any answers or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Jeff:
That is the only ligical explanation I have. if it feel slike it running out of gas chances are it is. You can verify it if you put a fuel pressure gauge on it and see what it does when it's choking out.. The pressure should be pretty steady at arounf 45 psi or so and increase slightly when you acclerate about 2-3 psi. If not then the pump is on it's way out. If you need pump get an AC Delco pump nothing else and replace the fuel filer as well.

good luck :)
