Pontiac Repair: Wheel Bearing, wheel bearing hub assembly, grand am gt

Question
i have a 2002 grand am GT and just recently replaced a wheel bearing hub assembly because of a humming noise coming from the front of the car.  I still hear the noise and does not sound like it got any better. What else could be the problem?

Answer
Hi Allan:

well it's one of a few things. first off when you drive down a striaght smooth road and turn the wheel slightly to one side or the other does the noise change? If so it's a wheel bearing. if the noise doesn't change it could be a bad tire or a tire that has chopped/cupped tread. Now if it does change and it's a wheel bearing nose You could have changed the wrong side. The noise travles through the car and you can replace the wrong side by mistake. When you changed the bearing did you torque the nut down to the proper spec? Good luck :)
