Pontiac Repair: air conditioner, radiator cooling fans, orfice tube

Question
QUESTION: 1999 Pontiac SSEi Boonville - 2 pound capacity - 134A.

I pulled down the system, was only low four ounces at 1 pound 8 ounces.  Recovered, vacuumed, held 15 minutes, charged 2 pounds.  Pump runs, lines cold, blowing hot air from dash vents with system on temp at 60 degrees.  Dash vent position only - warm air; descent volume.

Which servo is most likely to be stuck (if any)?  System will change between air flow positions.  Evaporator clogged?   Servo stuck?   Would the glove box area servo be the one causing the problem or is the problem a servo requiring the dash removal?    Which is the most likely to be the servo that is out that cuts off the cold air (if any)?  Thanks, Russ

ANSWER: Hi russ:

How do you know you put in 2 Lbs? are you using the bulk cans from a car parts store or do you have an actual HVAC charging station? do you have a gauge set to put on this so you can read the Hi and Low side or just the low side from the car parts store charging hose kit. If you can read the pressure what are they and what is the ambient temp and humidity when it's running? do the Radiator cooling fans run? is the lo side line cold at the EVAP inlet and the hi side hot right up to where the orfice tube is and then cold from there into the car? that is a chance that you have an issue with the temp door I'll assume this has auto climate control doe it have dual driver and passenger temp control or just one temp for the whle car? if it has dual are both sides the same not cold or is one side cold the other warm?

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: Yes, it has auto climate control and just one temp control for the whole car.

Used a Snap On (brand name) HVAC charging station.  Low & Hi can be read. Pressures running normal, radiator cooling fans are running.  Lo line is cold at EVAP inlet.  Hi side is hot at orfice tube and cold running into car.

Ambient temp is 88 degrees with 74% humidity

So how do I fix the temp door?

Thanks, Russ

Answer
okay it sounds like the issue is in the car and not a refrodge system issue. take the glove box out and look at the top of the HVAC box the temp door is on the top of the HVAC box.look to see if by some chance the wires may have been ripped out of the actuator or the programmer (module) if so that need to be replaced. The linkage can get cought on the wires and break them off. if not unhook the oinkage and see if the door moves if so the actuator or programmer is bad. good luck :-}
