Pontiac Repair: 1996 Pontiac Grand AM SE, ding sound, altenator

I was given this car a few months ago.  Ever since I picked it up where the owner abandoned it, I replaced the battery, replaced the altenator, it won't keep charge, the driver's floor board is soaked constantly, and it shakes/convulses when I move it.  I don't even get dash lights or a ding sound when I turn it over most of the time.  When it does start, it will be dead again within an hr. My mother-in-law wants to buy another vehicle for us/my husband since he has wrecked everyone he's owned.  I will not drive it. this Pontiac is my first vehicle since 2006. I can't and won't let this stop me from having something to call mine! I'm 26 and stubborn. we need 2 vehicles anyway with my construction jobs and my husband looking for work. No one will look at it and I have no family. I NEED HELP! Please.
thank you to whomever in advance.

Answer
Hi Keli:

well first thing is the water leak. That is a BAD thing on this car. due to the fact that the air bag control module is under the carpet and if that get water logged the air bags can go off and also it can cause issues with the other modules that are tied in to that one. So finding the watre leak is the first thing. the cowl Under the windshield would rot out on those cars and the water would leak in from there on either side of the car. the drivers side would be a likely place to look since the chime doesn't work anymore the multi-function chime moduel is on that side of the car and I have seen them go bad and cuase a battery drain. As for the running issue it more then lilley is not related to the water leak. I'll assume this is a 4 cylinder being that it's an SE. I would look at the ignition system for this possably a bad ignition coil/ignition module or a coil housing as the cause for the running roung shaking. Good luck :)
