Pontiac Repair: 1999 pontac montana, pontiac montana, thumb print

Question
I have a 99 Pontiac Montana, v, that will start but wont stay running unless you keep your foot on the pedal. Looked at the throttle cable and seems to have a bit of slop in it. Is this something that can be adjusted?
thanks for your help.

Answer
Hey Chris:

this can be the end result from a lot of different thing. has any service engine soon lamp come on? If so have the van scanned for codes and see what comes up. All of the big box auto parts stores will do it for free. see what codes are in the engine computer and that will give a clue/thumb print of where to start looking. As far as the throttle cable it does have a bit of "slop" in it that is normal you may have been looking at the cruise control one and not the actaul engine control. so go from ther and get back to me with the result and we can look at it from there.
