Pontiac Repair: Gear shifter button wont get out of park/key gets stuck in ignigtion, grand prix gtp, 97 grand prix gtp

I have a 97 grand prix gtp and the shifter button doesnt seem to want to depress out of park sometimes. So i'm stuck in park pressing this button, hitting the brakes, turning the wheel, everything i can think and sometimes it just doesnt work. I usually get it to go into drive but also sometimes i cant get the key to come out of the ignition due to it not going all the way turned to the off position. Any help would be appreciated. It seems to happen when its really cold, but i dont know if that has anything to do with it

I think your issues are related. it can be a few things. A bad ignition switch does anything electical act up on this car at the same time like the blower motor not work or the PRNDLL lamps on the dash not light up or light up dim? If so that would indicate an ignition switch issue. If not then I would look at the shifter it's self. Either a broken or freyd wire oat the connector at the base of the shifter or the shifter it's self is bad there is a switch at the base of the shifter and if either of the switches go bad you will not be able to get it out of gear or the key will get stuck and you can't rotate it back all the way to off. good luck :-}
