Pontiac Repair: transmission, rd gear, pontiac transport

1997 pontiac transport quit pulling in drive , smelled like a buning smell for 5 minutes and then started pulling in all gears again, what happen?

Well sounds like deep internal failure in the trnamission. I'm not a transmission guy but sounds bad to me. the burning smell was more then  liley the tranmission over heating and burning the cluthes up. usually in that transmission direct drive goes which is 3'rd gear there is no way to tell what happened to it untill it's pulled out and taken apart but that is my guess. after it cooled down maybe it was okay untill it heat up again and then the same thing will happen. It's only a matter of time untill you loose all the gears!
